Super Rare 1930's Double Flamingo Chatelaine Pin

 Reinad for Boucher

Reinad Info

Started in1922 the company worked exclusively in  jewelry and ornaments for the garment trade. In 1941 the firm launched  its first retail collection offering enameled and jeweled pins. For the most part these were  either in flower designs or  novelty motifs. These pieces of jewelry  are some of the highest quality, rarest and most sought after of all  costume jewelry. These pieces were signed Chanel in script (for Chanel Novelty Co.) and produced only in the spring of 1941. In  February 1941 Coco Chanel sued over the use of her name and won, so thereafter the company changed its name that year to Reinad Novelty Co., Inc. The signature changed to REINAD to reflect the name change.

Though they produced some designs under their own name, they were for the  most part a jobber/wholesale facility producing jewelry for many of the recognizable high end names which include: Boucher, Carnegie and Eisenberg. (See "A Tribute to America" by Brunialti and Brunialti, p. 28.)  Fred  Rezazadeh in his book "Costume Jewelry" states "If you see a piece of  Reinad jewelry you like, try to buy it, for you will not get a second chance."

This chatelaine pin was offered for sale to me by a collector of early Chanel, Boucher, and  Jomaz jewelry. The information I received when I purchased it was that it is Chanel. However, though the flamingos do look like Chanel,  I did some research on it  because the mark on the back looked very much like an early Boucher bird mark. Even though the flamingos resemble both Boucher & Chanel I  I now believe it is a very early Reinad piece. This is because of the information found on the internet about  Renaid jewelry. So please read the opening info on Reinad jewelry at the top of this listing. Information came from several sources, some of which include: "Researching Costume Jewelry marks" and "Antiquing On Line -The Jewelry Box".

 condition

Very good vintage condition. Silver metal shows its age with some darkening apparent in small areas on the back. Very normal for jewelry of this type. Pave' set rhinestones are excellent, all present and sparkling. >>>>>>“Please keep in mind though we may rate vintage jewelry as in very good to excellent vintage condition, these pieces are pre-owned and may show very gentle wear. This is only pertaining to normal wear as in very slight loss of brilliance in stones, faint, barely visible scratches on metal, and patina on certain metals such as brass and silver / silver plated metal"
