Very unique 1940's era collectible brooch, this is a 3-dimensional figural which may be an actual jewelry piece made for the film cast from the movie "THIEF OF BAGHDAD". It was purchased in a group lot which had over 100 pieces of Thief of Baghdad Korda pieces, some of which were incomplete as to the construction and finishing of the pieces. But many were completed and this is one of them. As it is an authentic piece from the 1940's era the workmanship is wonderful. The crystal ball is made of apple juice bakelite which has tested positive with Simichrome. Depicting an Arabian seer who is gazing into his crystal ball, this piece shows wonderful detail from his clothing and features to the multi-faceted rhinestone set in a star at the top of his turban. The figure is very solid, made of silver plated metal which now has a wonderful dark patina on it. There is a mark on the back of it which is a C in a circle. This would seem to be a copyright mark however the C here is a fancier type of letter which is seen under magnification. The brooch is in excellent vintage condition. I will note the bakelite ball does turn which is as it was made, not that it is loose for any other reason. This truly is a remarkably rare piece which would be a fabulous addition to your vintage bakelite, theme or figural collection. The pin measures 1~3/4" wide by 2~1/4" tall. The bakelite ball is a very nice size measuring 20mm. Very nice!
