1960's HUGE CARVED BLACK BAKELITE LEAVES NECKLACE with BIG WHITE PLASTIC BEADS
Super size beads make this a necklace that will be most fun to wear! What imagination to come up with these delightfully fun beads. From the 1960's era this piece features black and white gigantic leaves with a quirky and equally massive star shaped bead in the center of them. These drop from a necklace of big round white plastic beads which are accented with black saucer shaped plastic discs. Too too much, lol! But a great look, especially for summertime and especially for the creative and perhaps borderline avant garde personality! The dangling black leaves are carved bakelite and are graduated in size. The largest ones in the center measure 2~1/4" long and are 7/8" wide. The white leaves and star are most likely galalith being that the black ones are bakelite. They are white, but not as snow white as the round neck beads are. The center star bead is a wonderful irregular shape which measures 2" across at the longest points. The black beads tested positive for bakelite using simichrome polish but please know that black bakelite is difficult at best to show positive for bakelite. These did however show a very light yellow tinge on the paper towel when tested. The round neck beads are plastic. It is in very good to excellent vintage condition. The only flaw I need to point out is one round bead shows some "scuffing" on it. You only see this by looking very closely and cannot be seen while looking at the necklace from a normal distance. And it definitely is not seen when it's on the neck so this does not affect the look of it when wearing it. Otherwise all is in excellent vintage condition. The silk stringing is still tight to the clasp which is a spring ring style made of silver plated metal. Measuring 17" in length this is one to have, especially if you love to wear black and white jewelry
