This vintage necklace/ pendant by Lisner is big and striking with a very interesting and beautiful Egyptian motif depicting many Egyptian symbols. Some I know from researching are as follows: the Ankh, which was for the ancient Egyptians the symbol of eternal life. There are 3 featured in this piece. One at the top center, and two which drop down and dangle from the bottom of the pendant. In the center of the pendant you see a scarab which represents spontaneous creation. Ancient Egyptians also equated the scarab with the sun and the rising of the sun. There are two cobras in the center of the pendant, one on each side of the scarab. These represent several important things. The Cobra is the emblem of Lower Egypt and the King. It too is associated with the sun and many deities. Used as a protective symbol it was believed that the cobra would spit fire at approaching enemies. Then there is the Shen. This is a round circle or loop which signifies eternity, showing no beginning or end. It also symbolizes protection, often seen with Horus the falcon, a deity who takes on bird form. Sometimes Shen are seen with the Sun disc represented inside of the loop. There are 4 of the Shen symbols symbols seen with the Sun disc in this pendant. They are set above and beside 2 falcons. There are several other beautiful symbols in this necklace of which I don't know the meaning. Perhaps I'll search a bit more and find out soon. In the meantime I'll just say it is unusual for a Lisner piece and is very much in fashion being big, gold and bold. It is gold plated with both bright and brushed gold finishes. The quality is exceptional. The symbols are well formed with wonderful detail. The pendant itself is in excellent vintage condition with no wear to the gold plating at all. The chain in a beautiful one with nice large links. Not too big, just a perfect size which does not over power the pendant. The chain does show a bit of wear to the gold finish on several of the links, nothing too serious, but noted. The pendant measures 4~1/2" long x 3~1/2" wide. It measures 22" long. This would be a terrific addition to the vintage designer signed jewelry collection and a striking piece to wear anytime. Nice!
