VICTORIAN MOURNING PURSE~JET GLASS BEADS~NEEDS CLASP TLC
I've had this Victorian beaded purse for years thinking I would eventually have a frame/ clasp put on it. I purchased it without the frame as I was buying some gorgeous frames without purses at the time. But I ended up selling all of my frames over the years and now I don't think I'll get this purse done as vintage jewelry has completely taken over my life, lol! Sooo, I'm thinking there are lots of folks out there who could and would do a great job in restoring this handbag to its' former glory. This would be lovely framed also as it is from the Victorian era and would be too delicate to use. The purse is made with all jet glass beads with the center design area featuring 10 big faceted oval beads sewn around an even larger faceted oval glass bead. Then this design is encircled by 51 small, square cut, faceted beads. Both sides show this same center design layout. The main body of this purse is in wonderful condition. There are no missing beads there, even the bottom fringe is all intact. The top has lost the frame/clasp though, and I put scotch tape along the top edge because the beads there come off a bit when moved about. One possibility about the missing frame is that this bag originally had such a lovely one that someone may have taken it off to use on another purse. Wish it could tell me! At any rate, it is so beautiful that I hope someone will want to restore it. The inside still has the original tissue paper inside, though it is now very fragile. You an see the delicate pieces of it in the photos showing the inside of the purse. The lining is still in excellent condition. Measures 8" from the top to the bottom of the fringe x 6" across.
