Fantastic huge early Miriam Haskell brooch featuring gorgeous seashells. This pin has five big, highly polished outer shells with a large cluster of dyed raspberry red or fuschia "pelican feet" seashells in the center. These are sewn on to a large pierced plastic back which was used in the 1940's WWII unsigned era. The pin back itself has a safety closure and the brooch is in excellent vintage condition. The shells are wildly iridescent and beautiful with no visible chips, nicks or dulling at all. One of the large shells has a minute flake on the outer edge, it is so tiny I only found it by running my finger around the outer edges of the big shells. This is not seen unless you look for it very closely while turning it a certain way towards a light source. Hardly worth mentioning but noted. Other than that it is perfect. The size makes it a striking piece to wear, it measures 3~3/8" in diameter! And with the large center cluster it is approx. 1" high. Just spectacular. I have included photos from the book "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" by Cathy Gordon & Sheila Pamfiloff showing the construction of unsigned Haskell jewelry for verification. This would be a very nice addition to the older Miriam Haskell jewelry collection.
