1930's MIRIAM HASKELL SEASHELL PIN~HAND WIRED GLASS BEADS~BIG LIGHT BLUE SHELLS
Rare and whimsical this seashell brooch is a Miriam Haskell piece which dates to the 1930's era. This is from the period when the Haskell pieces were not signed but the photos and info about the construction and elements seen in this pin, (the back metal plate) used by Haskell at that time can be verified and viewed in the book "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" by Cathy Gordon and Sheila Pamfiloff (page70) Being a collector of seashell jewelry I found this pin especially striking. Designed in the shape of a huge flower blossom big shells depict the petals and various art glass beads are hand wired in the center of the flower. The shells are tinted a very light aqua blue color, beautiful and softly iridescent with the back of the shells being especially pretty. The center beads are colorful in red, various shades of blue, green, yellow and orange art glass beads. All of these elements are hand wired onto a pierced silver plated metal inner plate and then covered over and finished with a solid silver plated metal plate. These pieces are so unique, Some of my favorite Haskell pieces show the use of natural things such as these shells in her designs. Large and quite striking this brooch is in excellent vintage condition and measures approx. 3~1/8" in diameter. It is sure to be a favorite in the unsigned nature Miriam Haskell jewelry collection as well as a beautiful and unique pin to wear.
