VTG VERMEIL GOLD on STERLING SILVER OWL PIN~BLUE TOPAZ GLASS BELLY~FINE DETAIL
Beautiful detail and high quality construction this sterling vermeil owl pin dates to the 1940's era. It is a jelly belly type with a big oval cut faceted crystal stone for its belly. Very pretty in a blue topaz color it makes a wonderful contrast to the rose gold plated metal. The owl is perched on a branch, the detailed wood and feet of the owl is exceptional. The eyes are enameled red and the texturing of the metal in the face area gives it a finely feathered look, the workmanship seen in this piece is excellent. The condition is very good missing excellent vintage due to a few minor scratches on the back of the brooch. This is not serious and does not effect the beauty of the pin at all. Also, when I bought the owl the pin back was gone so I had my jeweler solder another onto it. It is professionally done using the same pin back style which would have been on it back in the 1940's. There is a slight fading to the rose gold finish in areas, again, nothing that detracts from its beauty in any way but noted. The big stone is excellent with no visible scratches or nicks. The pin is heavy weighing 25.1 grams, of course the stone is quite large adding to the weight of it. All in all this is a wonderful collector's piece. Measures 2~1/4" long x 1~6/16" across.
