VTG GLITTER COATED CELLULOID PLASTIC BUTTERFLY BRACELET NECKLACE SET~AB STONES
So light and charming this butterfly necklace and bracelet set is from the 1940's-50's era. The necklace features one large butterfly which is made of cellulose acetate in a double layer design giving it very nice dimension and form. This plastic butterfly is then lightly "frosted" with glitter in a very soft light yellow gold color, the wings are outlined in silver glitter, and accents of mint green glitter decorate the top as well. Aurora borealis and clear rhinestones add the finishing touch to the necklace pendant. It is supported with a silver filigree metal back from where the neck chain is attached to. The bracelet is just as charming and very unusual featuring 4 butterflies altogether. The 2 big ones are made of filigree celluloid while the 2 smaller ones at the ends are not filigreed, they are made of the same cellulose acetate that the pendant in made of. All have the light yellow glitter and aurora borealis stones. They are applied to oval shaped metal backs, the last 2 of which have no butterflies, instead have prong set AB rhinestones on them. This type of jewelry is hard to find in good condition due to the fragile nature of the materials used. This set is exceptional in that respect, it is in excellent vintage condition with virtually no damage or loss of stones or glitter anywhere. It looks delicate and ethereal but is very wearable. The butterfly pendant measures 2" long x 2" across at the top of the wing span. It hangs from a silver plated chain which measures 17~1/2" long and has a spring ring clasp. The large butterflies on the bracelet measure 1~3/4" across x 1~1/2" long. The small ones measure 6/8" across x 1~1/4" long. The bracelet itself measures 6~1/4" in length and has a fold over clasp. Sweet!
