YARDLEY ART DECO ENAMELED COMPACT WITH LIPSTICK~PATENT YEAR 1931
Very nice a1930's art deco vanity compact with attached lipstick by Yardley. Features black and white enameling on silver metal. This has all the items a lady in the 1930's would need when out and about. Lipstick, swivel tandem mirror along with powder and rouge compartments, quite a handy little item! This one has an enameled black and white center with a brass stamping of a European mother and two children. This piece is in fair to good condition with a few issues. The black enamel work is nice but shows very faint scratch lines on the top. The black enameling on the back has more pronounced scratches (see close up). The white enameling on the front has an very narrow edge on the right side it with slight enamel loss. This is very minor, but noted. The tiny black speckles on the white are part of the design, not wear, however there is small scratch on the bottom left side. There is a small ding in the top part of the black enameling in the front as well. It is enlarged in the photo so it does look more pronounced that it does when in hand. You have to turn it a certain way in the light to see really notice it. The inside is in good condition, the powder part needs a refill but the rouge has quite a bit of it left. The owner must have loved the lipstick as that color is gone. Over all a lovey case allowing us charming look into the past and fun to imagine the one who owned it. The patent number on the inside looks to be 1802858 which dates it to 1931. It is marked Yardley London. Measures 2 1/2" long by 2" wide and not quite 1/2" deep.
